CONANT PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Conant Public Library consisted of the original nineteenth-century building and a less than successful 1988 addition. Water infiltration and program space limitations triggered the need for renovations. The scope of the study and the renovation project included site and building systems improvements to solve water infiltration and air quality problems, improved access for the disabled, and expansion and reconfiguration of interior spaces for increased efficiency and functionality. The very restrictive site and the building's location at the bottom of a steep hill proved challenging to drainage design. Without significantly enlarging the existing footprint, interior space was added by filling in an existing two-story space and an exterior recessed entry space.
