Osborne Building

With the Norwell Public Library desperately in need of additional space and the Osborne Building being underutilized by the municipal offices, this study examined the possibility of reconfiguring and re-building this old school structure as a combined Town Hall and Library facility. The approximately 40,000 SF structure was determined to be incapable of supporting library loading. As such, the most economical and practical solution proposed reusing two thirds of the existing building and adding a two-story addition for some library functions. Construction and operational savings could be realized by sharing core facilities, including an elevator, an egress stairway, and public bathrooms.
