STEVENS POND PAVILION
Stevens Pond is a popular town beach run by the North Andover Park and Recreation Department. The old bathhouse had fallen into disrepair and was closed by the Board of Health. To save on construction cost, the new facility was built on the old concrete foundation. The floor was raised above the existing concrete slab to provide space for new piping and to eliminate the need to repair or replace the old slab. The exposed wood structure utilizes several species of wood. Ipe columns, beams, and floor decking provide exceptional structural capacity and durability while requiring no maintenance. Fir was selected for protected roof beams and decking to reduce costs without sacrificing quality. And vertical cedar boards and railings enclose the structure and provide superior weathering characteristics. The very abbreviated design and construction schedule was successfully met to allow use of the facility with the opening of the summer swimming season.
